The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) provides a structured process for customers who wish to relocate their electricity meters due to construction, renovations, or safety concerns.
The process ensures proper reconnection and compliance with KPLC’s safety standards while maintaining accurate billing records.
Application Through the Self-Service Portal
To begin the process, customers must apply via the Kenya Power Self-Service portal at www.kplc.co.ke or by dialing *977# on mobile phones.
Under the menu, select the option labeled “Meter Relocation.”
Applicants are required to provide essential details such as;
- Account number
- Meter number
- Contact information
- Current meter location
- The desired new location
In addition, customers must upload or present supporting documents, including the following;
- A copy of the national ID
- KRA PIN certificate
- Proof of property ownership (such as a title deed, lease agreement, or sale agreement)
- Evidence of settlement of any outstanding electricity bills.
This documentation helps KPLC verify ownership and ensures that relocation requests are legitimate.
Site Inspection and Quotation
Upon receipt of the application, KPLC schedules a technical site inspection to evaluate the suitability and safety of the proposed new meter position.
During the inspection, technicians assess whether the existing electrical infrastructure can support relocation and identify any required modifications.
Based on the findings, the company prepares a quotation detailing the relocation costs, which vary depending on the distance of the move and technical requirements.
Customers are notified of the quotation through SMS, email, or directly on the self-service portal.

The quotation remains valid for a specific period, within which payment must be completed to avoid delays.
Payment and Implementation
Once the quotation is approved, customers can pay using Kenya Power’s official Paybill number 888 888 or through authorized banking partners.
Payments should be made only through these official channels to prevent fraud or misappropriation.
Upon payment confirmation, KPLC dispatches a team of technicians to execute the relocation.
The process includes disconnecting the existing meter, repositioning it to the approved new location, reconnecting the supply cables, and conducting tests to confirm functionality and safety before power is restored.

Only KPLC-approved personnel should handle relocation to maintain electrical integrity and prevent hazards such as short circuits, fires, or inaccurate billing.
