Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration, through Nairobi City County, has issued a fresh warning to Nairobi traders as county enforcement operations intensify.
In a notice dated June 23, Nairobi City County Government urged all traders across the capital, urging them to renew their Unified Business Permits as part of an ongoing compliance and enforcement exercise.
The County officials said inspections, permit verification, and enforcement operations have been intensified across all 17 sub-counties to ensure businesses comply with the Nairobi City County Trade Licensing Act, 2019, and further, the exercise will also include the review of undercharged permits.
“Nairobi City County Government has embarked on a vigorous inspections and verification of permits, top-up of undercharges and enforcement exercise to confirm and ensure compliance with Nairobi City County Trade Licensing Act 2019 in all the 17 Sub Counties,” read part of the Nairobi City County statement in part.
Nairobi Traders On Notice
According to Nairobi City County Acting County Secretary and Head of County Public Service, Godfrey Akumali, renewal of Unified Business Permits is mandatory for all businesses operating within the county.

Akumali warned that operating without a valid permit is an offence under Section 26(3) of the Nairobi City County Trade Licensing Act, 2019. Violators risk a fine of up to Sh50,000, imprisonment for up to three months, or both.
“Operating without a valid permit is a violation of Nairobi City County Trade Licensing Act, 2019 Section 26 (3) and attracts a fine not exceeding Kenya Shillings fifty thousand or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or both,” he said.
He also reminded traders that Nairobi City operates a strict no-cash policy for all revenue collections and urged business owners to use the approved electronic payment channels.
Nairobi City County Launches Unified Business Permit Renewal Drive
Nairobi City has directed traders to renew their Unified Business Permits via the Nairobi Pay Portal at www.nairobiservices.go.ke.
Further, the notice directed that traders who need assistance can visit customer service centres at City Hall Annex, Kibra Huduma Centre, Eastleigh Huduma Centre, Dandora, Ruai, and Umoja, or call 0730047047.

The county said permit payments can be made through M-Pesa Pay Bill Number 6060047 using the invoice number as the account number.
Traders can also pay through Equity Bank Account Number 1600284509139 or Sidian Bank Account Number 01003710009942, both under the Nairobi City County Revenue Collection Account.
“Kindly pay for your Unified Business Permit through the following options to avoid any inconveniences caused as a consequence of being in default,” the notice emphasized.
Officials urged business owners to use the approved payment channels to avoid inconveniences that may arise from non-compliance.
