Justice Patrick Kiage’s Early life and education
Patrick Kiage was born in September 1969.
He went to the Alliance High School, where he did his Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) and Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE).
Patrick later attended the University of Nairobi for his Bachelor of Laws degree and the Kenya School of Law for his Postgraduate Diploma in Law in 1992.
He also holds a Master of Laws degree from New York University.
Legal practice
Justice Patrick began his early Legal career with Kurgat & Associates, then known as Nyachae & Company Advocates.
He later founded Kiage & Company Advocates and served as sole proprietor and, later, senior partner (1993–2007).
Kiage has served in Private practice in areas such as civil, commercial, matrimonial, and succession litigation, and has also practiced criminal defense for over ten years as a lawyer, with an impressive record of acquittals.

Service at the State Law Office and prosecutorial roles
Justice Patrick served as a Special Prosecuting Counsel at the State Law Office from 2007 to 2012.
He was the Attorney General’s representative to the Technical Committee on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) gap analysis.
Patrick chaired the Committee on the Role of Prosecutors in Sentencing and Involvement in Investigations.
He is also a member of State Law Office committees, including the Attorney General’s Office Committee on Witness Protection.
Judicial career
Justice Patrick was appointed Judge of the Court of Appeal in 2012 following a competitive recruitment process by the Judicial Service Commission.
He chairs the Judiciary Security Committee, and he is a member of the Judiciary Task Force on Sentencing Reform.
Teaching Career
Early in his career, Justice Kiage was also a trainer and facilitator in Alternative Dispute Resolution for the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and Governance, Justice, Law and Order Sector (GJLOS) reform program (consultant, 2001–2007).
Patrick taught Trial Advocacy at the Kenya School of Law, taught Law at the Kenya Institute of Management, and taught Criminal Procedure and Practice at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
He was also a Lecturer in Criminal Procedure, Family Law and Rights of the Child at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa from Aug 2006 – Dec 2011.
He has published law articles and contributed to books and journals in the same field.
Leadership and membership
Patrick Kiage is a Council Member of the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association, representing the Eastern Africa Region.
He is a member of the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA), the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya), the East Africa Law Society (EALS), and the Kituo Cha Sheria Annual General Assembly.
