Prime Bank was established in 1992. It has been a cornerstone of Kenya’s financial landscape for over three decades.
Over the years, the Bank has established a presence in other African countries such as Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe through its correspondent partners and banks.
As of December 31, 2024, the Group reported a net profit of Ksh 4.4 billion, while the Bank posted a profit of Ksh 4.2 billion for the year.
The Bank’s balance sheet expanded by 14 percent, growing from Ksh 166.1 billion to Ksh 188.8 billion. Shareholders’ funds increased by 18.2 percent, rising from KShs. 36.9 billion to KShs. 43.6 billion. Total interest income grew by 27 per cent, from Ksh 14.7 billion to Ksh 18.6 billion.
Customer deposits rose by 12.8 percent to close the year at KShs. 143.8 billion, up from Ksh 127.5 billion in 2023. The Bank’s loan book stood at Ksh 55.6 billion as at the end of the reporting period.
The liquidity ratio remained strong at 71.7 percent, significantly exceeding the Central Bank of Kenya’s statutory minimum requirement of 20 percent.
Additionally, the Bank maintained a solid capital adequacy position, closing the year with core capital of Ksh 29.8 billion, well above the CBK’s statutory requirement of Ksh 1 billion.
As of the latest records, the largest corporate shareholder is Africinvest Azure SPV, holding 24.20% of the total shareholding in the company.
Other significant corporate shareholders include Prime Capital Holdings Ltd with 14.36%, followed by Jamson Ltd, Crason Ltd, Nason Ltd, Prime Trustees Ltd, and Capital Nominees Ltd, each holding 8.02%. Casa Ltd and Jamar Ltd each hold 6.91% of the shares.
In addition, foreign corporate shareholders (7 entities) collectively hold 1.85%, while 28 local corporate shareholders collectively hold 5.67%.
In 2017, the group acquired 80.72 % of shareholding of Tausi Assurance Limited. Since the acquisition, Tausi Assurance Ltd has seen a steady growth of 25%.
