Why BestLady Stands Out in Pink
Back then, Mombasa County directed that all commercial and residential buildings in the CBD be painted white and Egyptian Blue.
BestLady Cosmetics resisted, citing that their bright pink colour is integral to their brand identity.
The company challenged the directive in court, arguing that Governor Ali Hassan Joho had no constitutional authority to enforce the colour change.
“The implementation will deny us the right to use our long-term trademarks and branding, which would inevitably lead to loss of customers and business earnings,” stated Peter Njoroge Karanja in an affidavit.
The High Court in Mombasa ruled in favour of BestLady, with Judge Eric prohibiting the county government from altering the company’s signature pink shade.
