United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party candidate William Kisang has emerged as the winner in the Elgeyo Marakwet Senatorial by-election.
Kisang garnered 41,378 votes, winning the Thursday, January 5 by-elections while his closest competitor of the PPD party Tim Kipchumba followed second with 38,151 votes.
Moreover, the Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial bid attracted four other hopefuls, including Safina Party’s Jerotich Seii, independent candidates Andrew Mengich and Kelvin Kemboi and Timothy Tanui of the New Democrats Party.
Furthermore, Tim Kipchumba and Jerotich Seii conceded defeat even before IEBC announced tally results. The two politicians congratulated Kisang on his imminent win.
Nonetheless, Elgeyo Marakwet Senate seat became vacant in October 2022 after the appointment of the then senator Kipchumba Murkomen’s appointment as Transport CS by President William Ruto.
UDA leaders have come out to congratulate Kisang for the win. Murkomen and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei were among the first to give their congratulatory messages to the newly elected senator.
