The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has recovered cash safes loaded with money during a multi-agency operation conducted in a major crackdown on drug trafficking and illicit liquor trade.
NACADA, in a statement on April 6, 2025, said that four cash safes containing money suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered during the operation in which contraband worth over Ksh2.9 million was seized in Bondo Sub-County.
In a statement, the agency’s CEO, Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, revealed that the operation was launched following a tip-off leading to the raid of a notorious drug dealer’s hideout in Nyamonye Market.
The raid at the home, business premises, and rental houses of the male suspect uncovered 4,600 sticks of suspected cannabis sativa and 11 brooms of suspected bhang (yet to be weighed and analyzed).

Also, 8 cartons of Supermatch cigarettes (allegedly destined for Uganda & South Sudan), 118 cartons of Challenger spirits, 107 cartons of Simba Waragi spirits and 12 cartons of Dry Gin liquor were recovered.
“This operation marks a significant victory in our relentless war against drug abuse and illegal alcohol trade. We will not allow unscrupulous traders to destroy the lives of our youth,” declared Dr. Omerikwa.
“The safes are being examined to verify the exact amount, but we strongly believe these are illicit earnings from this illegal trade,” stated Dr. Omerikwa.
Another female suspect was also arrested alongside the main suspect, and both are currently being detained at Bondo Police Station, awaiting arraignment in court on Monday.
This raid follows last week’s Ksh8 million drug seizure in Kisii County, signaling a nationwide crackdown.
“This is just the beginning,” warned the NACADA CEO. “We are scaling up operations across the country to dismantle these criminal networks and safeguard our youth.”

A quick search revealed 200 grams of heroin cleverly hidden in his left trouser pocket. Cornered and under pressure, he capitulated, guiding detectives to his stash at home, which led to the discovery of an additional 19 packages of Cannabis sativa,” read part of the statement.
The suspect is being held at Kilindini Port Police, undergoing processing, awaiting his arraignment in court.
In a similar operation, ANU detectives located at DCI Headquarters executed a raid in Kabati, Murang’a County, in which sacks of cannabis sativa were recovered.
The detectives intercepted the suspect with a subsequent search of his residence, uncovering 21 sacks of the drug.
