Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a primary school teacher and an accomplice on January 18 for allegedly producing fake Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2025 results slips.
According to the DCI statement, the two suspects are in police custody for their involvement in the publication and circulation of fake Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2025 results slips.
“Two slick conmen are cooling their heels in police custody for their involvement in the False Publication and making of fake Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2025 results slips, doing rounds on various social media platforms,” read the DCI statement in part.
Reportedly, the counterfeit documents had been widely shared across various social media platforms, misleading candidates and parents.
According to the investigators, the suspects were engaged in a scheme that targeted desperate KCSE candidates and their families. They promised to “upgrade” examination grades in exchange for payment, falsely claiming they could alter official KCSE results slips.

The operation relied on deception and exploitation of public anxiety surrounding national examination outcomes.
DCI Arrests and Investigations
According to the detectives, the arrests followed a coordinated operation by detectives deployed to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
One of the suspects was arrested in Kisumu, while his accomplice was apprehended in Ongata Rongai. The operation ended what detectives described as a carefully coordinated scheme to defraud the public.
Preliminary investigations established that one of them is a primary school teacher by profession and is believed to be the mastermind behind the syndicate.

Authorities revealed that he operated several online platforms that spread claims of grade manipulation. One of the main platforms, misleadingly named “KCSE 2025 Grade Upgrading,” reportedly had a following of 45,200 members.
Further Details
Further inquiries revealed that one suspect was also active on other online forums discussing examination fraud claims. These included groups branded as KNEC Legit Papers and Upgrading, Group Booster Support, KNEC/KASNEB/ICM/CDA, and KNEC Grade Editing.
“A search of their mobile devices unearthed images of fake KCSE result slips and other examination material, further exposing their shady dealings,” the DCI confirmed.
The DCI, working in collaboration with KNEC, warned members of the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters claiming they can manipulate KCSE results.
Detectives have also intensified efforts to trace other suspects connected to the academic fraud network as investigations continue. Members of the public have been encouraged to report similar incidents anonymously through the designated toll-free and WhatsApp reporting channels.
