According to the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), weighted cluster points represent a KCSE graduate’s performance in four subjects required for admission to a specific degree programme, measured against the performance of the top candidates in that KCSE year.
The calculation considers cluster subject requirements and the overall performance of a candidate, with points computed to three decimal places to minimise ties between applicants.
Cut-off points refer to the weighted cluster points of the last student competitively placed in each degree programme. These points determine eligibility for placement in each course.
Students are advised not to attempt to calculate their cluster points manually, as this may result in incorrect values.
Instead, check your weighted cluster points, which are automatically computed and available in your KUCCPS portal.
KUCCPS calculates cluster points using an automated placement system, based on KCSE performance data and performance indices (PI) provided by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
Individual students do not receive the PI and therefore cannot calculate their weighted cluster points independently.
KUCCPS calculates the points automatically using KCSE 2025 raw scores and performance indices (PI) from KNEC.
Cluster Subjects
KUCCPS groups degree programs into clusters, each requiring specific subjects.

Each degree program has a set of required subjects grouped into clusters, such as Sciences, Arts and Humanities, or Social Sciences.
Check the cluster for your intended course and note the required subjects. Typically, clusters include:
- Cluster A: Sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics)
- Cluster B: Arts and Humanities (e.g., History, English, Kiswahili, Literature)
- Cluster C: Social Sciences (e.g., Geography, Economics, Business Studies)
Formula
Weighted Cluster Points (C) are computed as:
Where:
- r = Sum of grades in 4 cluster subjects (max 48 points)
- R = 48 (maximum cluster points)
- t = Your overall KCSE aggregate points (max 84)
- T = 84 (maximum aggregate)

Steps to Calculate KCSE 2025 Cluster Points
To calculate KCSE 2025 points ahead of KUCCPS placement, the following steps are followed:
- Identify Cluster Subjects
Determine the four subjects required for your intended course. For example, Medicine requires Biology, Chemistry, Maths or Physics, and English or Kiswahili. - Convert Grades to Points
Use the KUCCPS grading scale to convert your KCSE grades into points: A=12, A-=11, B+=10, B=9, B-=8, C+=7, C=6, C-=5, D+=4, D=3, D-=2, E=1. - Sum Cluster Subject Points
Add the points from the selected subjects to get your total cluster points r. This total will determine your eligibility for placement in your preferred university course - Use Overall Aggregate
Determine your overall KCSE aggregate points t. - Apply Formula
Insert r, R, t, and T into the weighted cluster points formula to compute C. The official calculation is available on the KUCCPS portal.
