Prominent businessman and Chief Executive Officer of Makindu Motors, Stephen Musyoka, has died in a tragic road accident along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway.
The fatal crash also claimed the life of his wife after their vehicle was involved in a sudden collision in the Makindu area. The incident occurred along the busy highway. Both reportedly died at the scene, according to the police.
Road safety authorities have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident.
Stephen Musyoka and Wife Die in Mombasa–Nairobi Highway Accident
The deaths were confirmed in a statement by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse, who said he had received the news with great shock and disbelief.
In a Facebook post, Mutuse described Ngei as a close associate and “brother,” noting that he was the founder of Makindu Motors Ltd, an automotive company the assembles and distributes motorcycles and other motor vehicles.

“Mr. Stephen Ngei was the founder of Makindu Motors Ltd, an automobile company that specializes in the assembly and sale of motorcycles and other motor vehicles,” stated Mutuse.
The MP eulogized the late businessman as a self-made entrepreneur who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most successful investors in the Ukambani region.
Mutuse also extended his condolences to the bereaved family, noting that they were personally known to him and formed part of their wider community.
Stephen Musyoka was an entrepreneur in the Ukambani region and had built a strong reputation in Kenya’s motorcycle business sector.
Through Makindu Motors, he helped expand access to motorcycles across the country, with the company recognized for distributing the popular Skygo motorcycles.
Kalonzo Musyoka Mourns Stephen Ngei
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also mourned the deceased, Stephen Musyoka, describing him as a close friend and a remarkable figure in Kenya’s business landscape.
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I received the devastating news of the passing of my dear friend, Stephen Ngei, and his beloved wife, Giannaphina Mumbua, following a tragic road accident at Masimba along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway,” Kalonzo said in statement.
Kalonzo described Stephen Musyoka as the embodiment of a self-made entrepreneur, noting that he rose from working as a second-hand clothes hawker to building Makindu Motors Ltd into one of Kenya’s most successful automobile-assembling companies.
He said Ngei’s journey was marked by vision, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment that created opportunities for many and inspired countless young people across the country.
Kalonzo further paid tribute to the couple’s partnership, describing them as a symbol of strength, unity, and grace, and noted that their untimely deaths are a major loss to their family, the business community, the Ukambani region, and the nation at large.

Makindu Motors Ltd is an automobile and motorcycle company based in Makindu town, Makueni County, strategically located along the Nairobi–Mombasa highway.
