Steve Kirumba, the elder brother of popular radio presenter Baby Top, has spoken out after the tragic death of Angel Theo Kiragu, a boy who fell into a pool.
Speaking during Kiragu’s funeral service, Steve Kirumba explained that family members and friends had gathered at Baby Top’s residence for a thanksgiving ceremony following their father’s recovery from an illness.

According to Steve Kirumba, about 15 adults and 20 children of different ages were present at the event. Angel Theo Kiragu arrived among the last guests and was happily playing with other children.
“When the accident occurred on June 14, we were at her place for a thanksgiving event after our dad had been unwell. We had invited a few friends and family members. There were about 15 adults and around 20 children,” Steve said.
He described Angel as a cheerful and curious child who was playing with toys alongside other children before the tragedy struck.

Steve went on to reveal that once they realized something had happened, he and a friend identified as GG rushed the child to a nearby hospital to save his life.
“When we came to realize what had happened, we decided to rush him to the nearest hospital. It was devastating. We have never been so broken,” he said.
He added that both families spent hours together at the hospital and remained united in grief following the loss.
“We were together until 3 a.m., and we truly feel the parents’ pain because he was the same age as our children. He was playing with our children, but somehow he slipped away from our vicinity.”
Family Condemns Social Media Blame Game
Steve Kirumba also criticized individuals using social media to shift blame and spread accusations following the child’s death.
He urged Kenyans to show empathy to grieving families rather than exploit the tragedy for personal disputes.
“When a child passes away, let them rest in peace. People should practice basic decency. When families are mourning, do not add to their pain. If you cannot help, at least allow them to grieve in peace,” he said.
Steve Kirumba further called on those spreading allegations online to apologize to the bereaved family.

Angel’s Mother Defends Baby Top
During the burial on Friday, June 19, the boy’s mother also urged Kenyans to stop name-calling and shifting blame for the tragedy.
She said they were present when the incident occurred and clarified that her husband was the one who pulled their son from the water.
“I was there, and the father was the one who pulled him out,” she said.
The grieving mother further explained that the family had visited the Wakirumba home for a family gathering and not for entertainment, as some social media users had claimed.
“It was a family day. We were not going there to have fun as people may think,” she said.
In her speech, Mrs Kinyita appealed to the public to allow the family space to mourn their son and refrain from attacking individuals over the heartbreaking accident.
