A section of Kenyans has raised concerns about delays in announcing dates for the pass-out parade of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Recruits, Cohort 01/25.
According to the Ministry of Defense, recruitment for Cohort 01/25 started on October 13, 2025. Successful candidates reported to the Defense Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) in Eldoret on November 11 and were officially handed over to the Commandant on November 21 after verification.
“On 21st November 2025, at the Defense Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) Parade Square, a significant milestone was marked with the official handover of Recruits Cohort 01/25 to the Commandant DFRTS following an elaborate verification and documentation process which began on 10th November 2025. The event signified the successful conclusion of a recruitment exercise that had commenced on 13th October 2025,” stated the ministry a past statement.
The Ministry of Defense indicated that the recruits would undergo six months of foundational military training before proceeding to specialized training after passing out.
Based on this timeline, six months from the handover date would place the completion of basic training around early June 2026.

In previous cohorts, pass-out parades have typically been held soon after the conclusion of basic training.
For instance, a similar cohort completed training and passed out in May 2024 during a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto at DFRTS in Eldoret.
Despite this pattern, there has been no official communication confirming the date of the 2026 pass-out parade for Cohort 01/25, leaving the status of the ceremony unclear.
How Official KDF Pass-Out Dates Are Announced
The Kenya KDF and the Ministry of Defense follow a structured communication process when announcing major military events, including recruit pass-out parades.
Official information is primarily released through the Ministry of Defense website, which serves as the authoritative source for press statements, event confirmations, and updates on military activities.
Announcements are also shared via verified KDF social media platforms, government notices, and mainstream media outlets invited to cover such events.
Typically, the process begins with public recruitment notices, followed by official updates when successful candidates report for training and are formally handed over at the Defense Forces Recruits Training School.
Upon completion of training, the pass-out parade is scheduled and communicated through official channels.
These ceremonies are high-profile national events, often attended by senior military commanders and, in many cases, the President in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief.

KDF Recruitment and Training Process
The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) conducts nationwide recruitment exercises where candidates are selected based on strict physical, academic, and medical standards.
Successful recruits are then admitted to the Defense Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) in Eldoret, where they undergo document verification, medical screening, and orientation before training begins.
At DFRTS, recruits undertake basic military training that typically lasts about six months, focusing on physical conditioning, discipline, fieldcraft, leadership development, and core soldiering skills.
Upon successful completion, they graduate during a pass-out parade and are enlisted into the KDF, after which they may proceed to further specialized training or deployment within the Army, Navy, or Air Force.
