President William Ruto has made new changes in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), announcing a series of promotions, appointments, and deployments within the military.
In a statement on June 5, the Ministry of Defence stated that the changes were made on the recommendation of the Defence Council.
“His Excellency Hon Dr William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H, President of the Republic of Kenya, and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces upon recommendation of the Defence Council, has today appointed Major General John Maiso Nkoimo as the Deputy Commander Kenya Army. He replaces Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan who has proceeded for retirement. Until his appointment as Deputy Commander Kenya Army, Major General Nkoimo was the General Officer Commanding, Central Command. Additionally, Brigadier Mohamud Salah Farah who was the Base Commander at Laikipia Air Base has been appointed the Deputy Air Force Commander,” read the statement.
President Ruto Key Appointments Promotions and Extensions
President Ruto appointed Major General John Maiso Nkoimo as the Deputy Commander of the Kenya Army. He replaces Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, who has retired.

Before the appointment, Major General Nkoimo served as the General Officer Commanding Central Command.
Brigadier Mohamud Salah Farah, who had been serving as Base Commander at Laikipia Air Base, has been appointed Deputy Air Force Commander.
Brigadier William Kamoiro has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Central Command.
Brigadier Peter Kipketer Limo has also been promoted by Ruto to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics at Defence Headquarters.
Major General Limo replaces Major General Edward Rugendo, who has been appointed Managing Director at the Defence Forces Welfare Services.
On the advice of the Defence Council chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, President Ruto extended the tenure of Kenya Navy Commander Major General Paul Owuor Otieno by one year.
