Fresh details have emerged following the death of American Idol finalist Mandisa Hundley.
An autopsy has revealed that Mandisa died a natural death.
The results further revealed that the 47-year-old gospel musician succumbed to complications related to class III obesity.
According to Cleveland Clinic, Class III obesity is a disease in which a person “has a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher or a BMI of 35 or higher and is experiencing obesity-related health condition”.
The Grammy winner’s lifeless body was discovered by friends at her home in Tennessee on April 18,2024.
In April, a representative of Mandisa confirmed her death and asked the public to keep her family and close friends in prayers.
“We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased,” they wrote.
“At this time, we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
According to reports, Mandisa went through a hard time in 2014 when her best friend and backup singer Kisha Mitchell died of breast cancer while pregnant.
Further reports revealed that the “God speaking” singer turned to food for comfort which led her to gain a significant amount of weight.

In a past interview, Mandisa recounted falling into depression when her friend passed on.
“When she passed away, it shook the foundations underneath me, I sank into a deep pit of depression,” she said.
Mandisa Life and Music Career
Mandisa hailed from Citrus Heights, California, and gained fame for her chart – topping hits.
The “Overcomer” singer pursued music studies in college before captivating audiences as a beloved contestant on season 5 of American Idol.
She concluded the competition among the top 9 finalists, sharing the stage with favourites like Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Chris Daughtry, Paris Bennett, Elliott Yamin, and eventual winner Taylor Hicks.

After her time on Idol, Mandisa launched her debut album, True Beauty, in 2007.
The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart, making her the first new female artist to accomplish the feat, and she earned her first Grammy nomination for best pop/contemporary gospel album.
The album soared to the top spot on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart upon its release, a historic achievement for a new female artist.
Throughout her career, Mandisa launched five additional albums, among them 2013’s “Overcomer,” which clinched a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in the subsequent year.
