Kenyan bodybuilder and fitness trainer Gachau Njoroge has revealed that he suffered a minor liver injury following his Round 6 Technical Knockout (TKO) defeat to Phil (Fidel Castro) during the Vurugu 2 heavyweight boxing match.
The boxer, who was hospitalized after the fight, has since undergone medical evaluation and says he is recovering well despite the physical toll of the bout.
Speaking to the Media, the boxer has confirmed that after his hospitalization, medical tests were carried out and that he is recovering after a minor liver injury.
“Yes, everything is fine. I’ve done a CT scan, Ultrasound of the stomach where I have the history of surgery is fine. Here at the liver, they confirmed there’s a small fluid here. But the CT scan has confirmed that it’s nothing serious. And then the X-ray has confirmed that the lungs are fine. There’s nothing to worry about. And then the X-ray has confirmed that the lungs are fine. There’s nothing to worry about,” said Gachau.

Medical Scans Confirm Minor Liver Issue After Vurugu 2 Fight
Following his defeat in Round 6, the boxer was hospitalized and underwent a full medical assessment that included a CT scan, lung ultrasound, and chest X-rays to determine whether he had any internal injuries. The results confirmed that there was a minor concern regarding his liver, but no serious damage was detected.
He also confirmed that a small accumulation of fluid near the liver, a condition associated with blunt-force impact in contact sports.
After the assessment, doctors deemed the injury noncritical and cleared him for discharge after observation.
The fitness trainer also confirmed that his chest and lungs were unaffected, following the heavyweight contest.
Gachau Says Recovery is Progressing After Hospital Discharge
Gachau has since said he is steadily improving after the physically demanding fight. He noted that while he is “almost getting there,” he is still experiencing some effects of the bout, including concussion-like symptoms, which is normal.
Despite the defeat, Gachau maintained a respectful and competitive attitude toward his opponent, Fidel Castro, congratulating him after winning the Vurugu 2 fight.
“ Yes, I’m at my best. I can hear the concussion in my lungs. So champ, Mr. Fidel, the cabbage head, bro. Phil, congratulations. You’re the better man tonight. But remember, you’re still a cabbage head. You’re the better man tonight. But remember, you’re still a cabbage head. We’ll deal with you until it’s over.
He also praised the organizers of Vurugu 2, particularly Obinna TV Studios, for staging the event at Sarit Expo Centre.

Vurugu 2 boxing event, organized by Oga Obinna at Sarit Expo Centre, produced winners across its main fight card, with decisive victories in both knockout and points decisions.
In the headline bout, Phil emerged victorious after defeating Gachau Njoroge via a Technical Knockout (TKO) in the sixth round.
In another high-profile matchup, Shakib Cham delivered a dominant performance, stopping Kenyan musician Arrow Bwoy with a second-round TKO.
James Mbali Mbali made a comeback victory, defeating Alfayo Siwo via TKO.
Tyson Mauru secured a win over Clinton, taking the bout on a unanimous decision after going the distance and earning the judges’ approval.
