Maureen Nyadida Lukoye was a Kenyan public-sector professional, publicly known as the wife of psychiatrist Prof. Lukoye Atwoli.
She built much of her career at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), where she worked for more than a decade in compliance before moving into strategy and organisational change.
In a statement on September 8, Lukoye Atwoli, son of Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli, announced the death of his wife, Maureen Lukoye.
The professor shared the heart-breaking news in an emotional tribute, mourning Maureen after 21 years of marriage and reflecting on the difficulty of coming to terms with her death.
“I will struggle to deal with this. So long, my dear. So long,” Lukoye wrote.
Lukoye Atwoli and Maureen were married and have two children together. He met his wife at a wedding ceremony.
Educational Background
Maureen Nyadida holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Management from Moi University, though her professional profile does not list the dates of study.
She also holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Counselling Psychology from The Catholic University of Eastern Africa, which she pursued between 2018 and 2020.
Her first degree was a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biological Sciences from Egerton University, where she studied from 1997 to 2002.
Maureen Nyadida: Early career and entry into NSSF
After completing her BSc in Biological Sciences at Egerton University (1997–2002), Maureen Nyadida later earned postgraduate qualifications in counselling psychology and strategic management, which she leveraged to build a public‑service career.
She joined the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) as a Compliance Officer in 2007, where she focused on enforcing statutory contribution requirements, engaging employers, and ensuring compliance with the NSSF Act.

Over more than 14 years in compliance, she took on increasingly senior responsibilities, including handling complex cases involving large employers, managing contribution arrears and coordinating with regulators and labour bodies.
In April 2021, Maureen Nyadida moved into the role of Strategy and Change Officer at NSSF, shifting from frontline compliance work to a strategy-focused position within the organisation.
Her responsibilities included designing and implementing organisational change initiatives, supporting strategic planning and performance management, and driving process improvements and transformation projects across the fund.

Lukoye Atwoli is currently a professor of Psychiatry and the Dean of the Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa, since 2020.

His extensive career began in 2014, when he became an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Mental Health at Moi University.
Previously, he was Dean after working as a Senior Lecturer and Lecturer from 2012 in the Department of Mental Health at Moi University.
From 2007 to 2008, he was a Medical Specialist in Mental Health at the Moi Teaching Referral Hospital.
In 2006, he worked as a Provincial Psychiatrist and Deputy Medical Superintendent at the Provincial General Hospital, Garissa.
