The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has reopened the sale of two fixed-coupon Treasury bonds to raise KSh60 billion to support the government’s budget.

In a prospectus released on Tuesday, September 8, CBK said the offer comprises two fixed coupon Treasury bonds, with one maturing in 2039 and the other in 2056.

The first bond, FXD1/2019/020, has 12.6 years to maturity and carries a coupon rate of 12.873 per cent. It will mature on March 21, 2039.

The second bond, FXD1/2026/030, has 29.6 years to maturity and carries a coupon rate of 12.5 per cent. It will mature on March 13, 2056.

Kenyans Can Invest in CBK’s KSh60 Billion Treasury Bonds with KSh50,000

According to CBK, the sale opened on September 8, 2026, and will close on September 16 at 10 am, when CBK will also conduct the auction.

Investors with active DhowCSD accounts can participate, with non-competitive bids starting at KSh50,000 and capped at KSh50 million.

Competitive bids must be at least KSh2 million per CSD account per tenor.

The bonds will attract 10 per cent withholding tax and will be issued through a multi-price auction.

Successful bidders will settle their payments on September 21, while secondary trading in the bonds will begin the same day.

“All successful bidders should obtain the payment key and amount payable from the CBK DhowCSD Investor Portal/App under the transactions tab on Friday, 18-Sep-2026, for FXD1/2019/020 and FXD1/2026/030. Defaulters may be suspended from subsequent investment in Government Securities.

The Central Bank reserves the right to accept applications in full or part thereof or reject them in total without giving any reason,” read part of the statement.

The bonds will also be listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange and qualify as statutory liquidity assets for commercial banks and non-bank financial institutions.

How to Bid

To invest in the reopened Treasury bonds, interested applicants must first open a DhowCSD account with the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Prospective investors without an account can register online using a mobile phone or computer with internet access.

During registration, applicants are required to provide a valid email address, an active mobile phone number registered with a Kenyan mobile network, their Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN, settlement bank account details, a recent passport-size photograph, and a valid identification document, such as a national identity card, passport, or alien card.

According to the CBK, applicants must complete the registration process within seven days, as incomplete applications are automatically deleted from the system after that period.

Once an application is approved, investors receive a username via email, which they can use together with their registered email address to access the DhowCSD Investor Portal or mobile application.

CBK also allows investors to open joint DhowCSD accounts, provided each account holder first registers an individual account.

Investors must submit any changes to their email address or settlement bank account details to the CBK for approval before they take effect.
