Ex-Churchill Show Comedian Reveals Struggles with Sickle Cell Disease

Comedian Akuku Danger has opened up about his battle with sickle cell disease, emphasizing the divine intervention that played a crucial role in his recovery.

Reflecting on his condition over the past few weeks, the comedian acknowledged the life-threatening nature of the illness, narrating how one moment he was immersed in daily activities, and the next he found himself fighting for his life in the hospital bed.

“Sickle Cell is a monster man. One minute you are going about your business and working hard to chase this bag and the next minute you are fighting for your life in the hospital,” he noted in a post on social media.

In the caption to a video of him in hospital, Akuku Danger’s noted that he was not sharing his struggles with the disease to attract sympathy but to create awareness about sickle cell.

He also expressed his desire to encourage and support others grappling with the condition.

“Am posting this not for sympathy or anything but for all the sickle cell warriors out there who are looking for inspiration and Yes!  YOU ARE ALL STRONGER THAN YOU THINK,” he added.

Akuku Danger Health Dilemma

However, this is not the first time Akuku danger is admitted to hospital because of the disease.

In 2021 the comedian was admitted to hospital after one of his lungs collapsed. Following his admission to the ICU, his close friends rallied fans and Kenyans on goodwill to contribute money for his medical bills. 

In the heartfelt post, actress Sandra Dacha who is one Akuku Danger’s close friends requested Kenyans to pray for him.

“One of his lungs has already collapsed and is currently in the I.C.U fighting for his life. I ask you all to keep him in your prayers, God is a faithful GOD. Let’s all trust in him.” wrote Dacha

In a previous interview, the former Churchill show comedian disclosed that medics had advised his family to prepare for his demise.

“I don’t want to tarnish the name of the hospital, but bro babangu aliambiwa hakuna haja ya huyu kijana awekwe kwa ICU. Huyu mtakuwa tu mnaharibu pesa. So nyinyi mchague ju sisi we are here to make money,” Akuku said.

Despite such heartbreaking sentiments from a medical practitioner, Akuku’s resilience and the support he received all odds, leading to his recovery.

Having Children

During the interview he also described the pain that he has endured over the years revealing that he would not want to sire a child who will go through the same.

“No matter how much I love her if she is a carrier ama kama blood group yake ni positive I can’t have a baby with her.

“I wouldn’t want to bring another child in this earth with the same condition as mine because bro it’s tough, ” he said.

Sickle Cell Anemia

Sickle cell anemia is an inherited blood disorder known as sickle cell disease. It affects the shape of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to all parts of the body.

The current approach to treatment is to relieve pain and help prevent complications of the disease.
