Moi Kapsowar Girls High School is a national public secondary school for girls located in Kapsowar. The school has a rich historical background and is sponsored by the Africa Inland Church (AIC).
The origins of the school date back to the 1930s with the arrival of missionaries in the region. These missionaries established Kapsowar Mission Hospital and, beginning in 1939, began providing refuge to girls escaping female genital mutilation (FGM) and early marriages. The refuge centre was known as Kaptibin, which operated until its closure in the late 1960s.
In 1969, the church council at the time proposed the establishment of a girls’ secondary school, borrowing from the model of the Kaptibin refuge centre. At that time (1969–1970), there was already an existing primary school and a boys’ school within the mission compound. The boys’ school was later relocated to Chebara Secondary School.
