The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a new visa-on-arrival policy for eligible Kenyan citizens, easing travel requirements for a section of travelers seeking entry into the Gulf nation.
In a notice issued on June 25, the UAE Embassy in Nairobi said the new policy took effect immediately.
“Effective June 25, 2026, the United Arab Emirates will grant visas on arrival to ordinary passport holders from the Republic of Kenya and their accompanying family members,” the embassy said.

According to the embassy, the new policy allows ordinary Kenyan passport holders and their accompanying family members to obtain visas on arrival.
Eligibility is limited to those holding valid residence permits from the United States, European Union member states, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Canada, or New Zealand.
The UAE Embassy reiterated that the initiative aims to facilitate travel and strengthen the UAE’s position as a global hub for tourism, business, and investment.

Previous UAE Visa Requirements for Kenyan Travelers
Before the introduction of the visa-on-arrival policy, Kenyan citizens were generally required to apply for a visa before travelling to the United Arab Emirates.
All applicants were required to submit a duly completed visa application form, a recent passport-sized photograph taken within the previous six months, and a passport valid for at least six months from the intended date of travel.
Applicants were also required to provide a copy of their passport biodata page.
For tourist visas, travelers had to furnish proof of a confirmed travel itinerary or return flight booking, as well as evidence of accommodation arrangements in the UAE.
Non-citizens applying from a third country were additionally required to provide proof of legal residency, such as a residence permit, visa or green card.

They also had to provide a letter from their employer confirming their position, the purpose of travel, and responsibility for travel expenses. Supporting documents demonstrating a business relationship could also be requested.
Travelers transiting through the UAE were required to provide proof of onward travel, including a confirmed flight ticket to their final destination.
Where applicable, applicants also had to present a valid visa for the next destination and evidence showing the duration of their transit stay within the UAE.
