The Banda School is located on Magadi Road, opposite the Nairobi National Park, in the calm suburb of Langata, Nairobi, Kenya.
Established in 1966, the prestigious British International School is known for its 21st-century learning approach and vibrant community, catering to students from early years (18 months to 5 years) to upper school (ages 9 to 13).
Banda School Historical Background
The school’s history dates back to 1956, when it began as Kaptagat Preparatory School near Eldoret, run by Mr. and Mrs. Chitty with an initial enrolment of 170 children.
It officially opened as The Banda School in September 1966, starting with 24 children, eight teaching staff, and a Headmaster.
Educational Offerings and Curriculum
Pegasus Early Years (Ages 18 Months to 5 Years)
Pegasus Early Years is the foundational program at The Banda School, focusing on fostering creativity, independence, and a love for learning through engaging activities like messy play, arts and crafts, and story times

Set on the school’s 32-acre campus in Langata, the program includes trips and visiting speakers to enhance exploration.
Concerts and plays are organised, providing an opportunity for children to perform in front of an audience. The annual Pegasus Early Years play involves all of the children in a major production.
From Nursery, the child is taught by subject specialists in Music, Sport, and Computing and has full use of the facilities within the main school.
Early Years Football, Ballet, Lamda, Tennis, Swimming, Gymnastics, Golf, Taekwondo, Little Einsteins, Pottery, and individual instrument lessons are available from a specialist team who provide an afternoon coaching session once a week to children in the Early Years.
Lower School (Ages 5 to 9)
The academic curriculum, based upon the National Curriculum of England & Wales in Years 1 to 4, is split into two key stages, Key Stages 1 & 2.
Key Stage 1 includes pupils at 5 to 7 years of age in Years 1 and 2. The core subjects are Mathematics, English, and Science taught by their class teacher, who also teaches Humanities and Personal Social Health Education.
The children have specialist teachers for French, Kiswahili, Music, Computing, PE, and Games.
In Key Stage 2, the children are introduced to additional specialist teachers for Art and Design Technology.
Children are grouped by ability for Mathematics, spelling, and phonics to ensure they are taught at a pace and level most suitable to achieve and progress.
The culmination of all their hard work in the Lower School is rewarded by attending an outward-bound residential trip to celebrate the conclusion of their Lower School years.
Weekly PE lessons along with four Games lessons each week ensure that the pupils have ample opportunities for physical activity and to gain all the benefits of participating in working as a team.
Pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 form the Under 9 sports squads and take part in inter-school fixtures in all major team sports: football, cricket, hockey, rugby (boys only), and netball (girls only).
Swimming lessons take place as part of the PE curriculum, along with tennis, squash and athletics.
The pupils are also given numerous chances to showcase their talents, through events like Internal House matches, Athletics events, Lower School Sports day, Swimming Galas, Lower School Football World Cup, Orchestra, Poetry competitions, French Day, and field trips.
Upper School (Ages 9 to 13)
From Year 5, class teachers are replaced by subject specialists, and each pupil is assigned a Form Tutor who oversees their day-to-day pastoral needs.
In addition to the core subjects of English and Mathematics, Science (separated into Physics, Chemistry and Biology lessons from Year 7) the timetable is also made up of French, Kiswahili, Geography, History, Art, Drama, Music, Religious Studies, Computing, Performing Arts, Design & Technology, Games, PE and PSHE (Personal Social Health Economic Education).
In Years 7 and 8, Religion, Philosophy & Ethics (RPE) provides additional opportunities to examine beliefs and traditions, philosophical thinker,s and ethical debates.

Regular opportunities for physical exercise, teamwork and time outside the classroom are vital, and our sports programme in the Upper School ensures that our pupils are well-provided with the chance to be active.

Preparatory School
Year 1 (Ages 5–6): Ksh. 440,000 per term
Year 2 (Ages 6–7): Ksh. 675,000 per term
Years 3 to 8 (Ages 7–13): Ksh. 732,000 per term
A 10% reduction on tuition fees for the second and subsequent children in Year 2 and above, enrolled simultaneously.
A 5% discount on total tuition fees if paid in full for the year in advance, and all fees must be paid by the first day of the term.
Late payments incur a Ksh. 10,000 penalty, plus 2.5% per month after 14 days.
One term’s notice is required for withdrawals, or a full term’s fees are charged.
