Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has released the 2026 student placement results.

Students will also have an opportunity to change their institutions or programmes through the 2026 inter-university and inter-institutional transfer window once opened.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced an extension of the transfer period from two weeks to one month, giving students additional time to review their placement decisions a

The transfer process allows students dissatisfied with their placement to request a transfer to another institution or course, provided they meet the required academic qualifications and the receiving institution has available capacity.

Who Qualifies for KUCCPS Inter-University Transfer 2026?

Not every student placed through KUCCPS automatically qualifies for a transfer. Applicants must meet specific requirements before their requests can be considered.

To be eligible, a student must have been placed by KUCCPS in a university, TVET institution or other higher education institution. The applicant must also meet the minimum subject requirements and cut-off points for the programme they wish to transfer to.

Students can choose to change their institution, programme or both, depending on their academic qualifications and available slots. However, they can only apply for one institution and one programme at a time during the transfer.

A valid reason for requesting the transfer must also be provided. Depending on the circumstances, applicants may be required to submit supporting documents to justify their request.

Some programmes may have limited opportunities due to high demand. Competitive courses, especially medicine and other health-related programmes, often have fewer available slots, meaning applicants may face higher chances of rejection.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Apply for KUCCPS Transfer

The entire KUCCPS inter-university transfer process is completed online through the KUCCPS Student Portal.

Log in to the KUCCPS Students Portal using the required credentials, including the KCSE index number and examination year.

After accessing the account, applicants should select the transfer section and choose their preferred institution and programme.

A student is required to provide the correct programme code and confirm that they meet the requirements before submitting the application.

Students are required to pay a KSh 1,000 transfer processing fee through the KUCCPS portal via eCitizen. The application will proceed only after payment is successfully completed.

Once submitted, the application goes through different approval stages. The receiving institution reviews whether it has space available, while the institution where the student was initially placed confirms the release. KUCCPS then conducts the final review before approving or rejecting the request.

Transfer Deadlines, Processing Time and Tips for Success

Following Ogamba’s announcement, the transfer window has been extended from the initial two weeks to one month.

Transfer approval may take between one day and two weeks, depending on the institution, programme and how quickly the involved institutions process requests.

Students can track the progress of their applications through the KUCCPS portal, as no separate transfer placement results are released.

To improve their chances of success, students should carefully select programmes where they meet the required qualifications and avoid applying for courses with extremely limited slots.

Applicants should also ensure that all details entered on the portal are accurate, provide a clear reason for the transfer by uploading any required supporting documents.

If an application is rejected, a student may submit another transfer request for a different institution or programme during the transfer period without paying another transfer fee.

Successful applicants will receive approval through the KUCCPS portal and can obtain their admission documents from the new institution.
