Laikipia University is a premier university of Education (Arts) with a rich history dating back to 1929, located in Nyahururu County.
Originally founded as a primary school by William Thomas Alfred Levet, it evolved over the years to meet the educational needs of the region.
From 1965 to 1970, it served as a Large-Scale Farmers Training College administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.
In 1979, it became an Animal Husbandry and Industry Training Institute (AHITI), offering a two-year Certificate in Animal Health.
The institution gained university status in 1990 when it was established as a Campus of Egerton University, primarily focusing on providing better training for teachers in education courses. In 2011, it became a constituent University College of Egerton University.
However, Laikipia University officially received its university charter on February 19, 2013, from the late President Mwai Kibaki, marking a significant milestone in its growth.
Today, Laikipia University is a fully-fledged, independent university, offering a wide range of programs at various academic levels, from certificate courses to postgraduate and doctoral degrees.
