M.P. Shah Chania Boys High School is a public Boys secondary school categorized as C2 under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
It is located in Thika West Sub-county, Kiambu County.
The institution traces its roots to the late 1950s or early 1960s, when it was first established as M.P. Shah High School.
With financial support from M.P. Shah, the school was designed as a co-educational institution, offering both boarding and day schooling to boys and girls.
M.P. Shah Chania Boys High School History
It quickly became a unique institution in Thika, known for serving students from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
In 1962, the school was built and was originally known as M. P. Shah High School with the donation of its founder, M.P. Shah.
During this period, the school continued to uphold its ethos of inclusivity, providing education to a diverse student population in the years following Kenya’s independence.
Both boys and girls could enroll and board, allowing students from across the region to benefit from its programs.

In 2000, the school underwent a significant structural change, splitting into two separate institutions: Chania Boys’ High School and Chania Girls’ High School.
This separation aimed to provide more tailored educational experiences for boys and girls while maintaining the strong academic and community values that had defined the school for decades.
In 2023, Chania High School was renamed M.P. Shah Chania Boys High School, honouring the school’s founder, Meghji Pethraj Shah.

School Performance
M.P. Shah Chania High School posted a strong improvement in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
A total of 393 candidates sat the 2025 examinations, up from 338 in 2024, yet the school improved its mean score to 7.6 (B-), rising from 7.3 the previous year despite the larger candidature.
University qualifications also increased significantly, with 279 candidates (71 per cent) attaining C+ and above, compared to 63 per cent in 2024.
Performance at the upper grades was notably strong. The school produced three A grades, 19 A-, and 41 B+ candidates.
An additional 69 students scored B, while 81 attained B-.
Notably, the school recorded no D- or E grades, with only a small number of candidates falling within the D and D+ categories.
