M.P. Shah Chania Girls’ High School is a public Girls secondary school categorized as C2 under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

The institution traces its roots to the late 1950s or early 1960s, when it was first established as M.P. Shah High School.

With crucial financial support from M.P. Shah, the school was designed as a co-educational institution, offering both boarding and day schooling to boys and girls.

It quickly became a unique institution in Thika, known for serving students from a wide array of cultural, racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.

M.P. Shah Chania Girls’ High School History

In 1962, the school operated under the name M.P. Shah Girls’ High School until 1967, when it was renamed Chania High School.

During this period, the school continued to uphold its ethos of inclusivity, providing education to a diverse student population in the years following Kenya’s independence.

Both boys and girls could enroll and board, allowing students from across the region to benefit from its programs.

In 2000, the school underwent a significant structural change, splitting into two separate institutions: Chania Boys’ High School and Chania Girls’ High School.

This separation aimed to provide more tailored educational experiences for boys and girls while maintaining the strong academic and community values that had defined the school for decades.

In late 2024, Chania Girls’ High School was renamed M.P. Shah Chania Girls’ High School, honouring the school’s founder, Meghji Pethraj Shah.

According to the released results, 236 out of 342 candidates (69%) scored C+ and above, qualifying for direct university admission.

The cohort showed particular strength in the middle and upper grades, with 60 students earning B, 80 earning B-, and 73 earning C+.

Additionally, 23 candidates earned A- and B+ grades, which showed the school’s capacity to produce competitive academic outcomes.

Low grades were minimal, with only four students scoring a D and no candidates recording an E.

School administrators acknowledged the slight dip in the mean score but noted that overall performance remained stable, particularly given the reduced number of candidates and evolving national examination standards.

Location And Contacts

The school is located in Biashara Sub-location within Thika Municipality, Kiambu County.

Its postal address is P.O. Box 2723–01000, Thika, and it can be reached by phone at 0728884303.
