Maasai Mara University is a public university and the only university in Narok County. It is situated 150km Southwest of Nairobi en route to the great Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
The University has seven schools offering various courses under doctorate, master’s, bachelor’s, diplomas and certificates.
The current Vice Chancellor of the Maasai Mara University is Professor Peninah Aloo Obudho.
It has several other campuses including Bomet Campus, Kipipiri Campus, Nairobi Campus, Kajiado Satellite Campus, Kilgoris Satellite Campus, Kisii Town Campus, Narok Town Campus and Nyandarua Satellite Campus.
Maasai Mara has the School of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Creative Industries
It offers the following bachelor’s degrees: Criminology and Penology, Political Science and Public Administration, Psychology, Public Administration, Cultural Studies, Community Development, Social Work and Religion.
Other degree courses include Communication and Public Relations, Communication and Journalism, Kiswahili and Media Studies, Literature, Theatre, and Film, History, Sociology, Philosophy, and Language and Communication Studies.
School of Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, and Agriculture
The undergraduate programs offered under this school include The courses offered include Environmental Studies (Earth Sciences), Urban and Regional Planning, Arts in Geography, Environmental Management, Science in Environmental Studies and Environmental Studies (Biology and Health).
Other courses are Science in Forestry Ecosystem Management, Science (Wildlife Resource Management), Science (Forestry), Science (Animal Health and Production), Science in Leather Production and Processing, Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, and Science in Agriculture Biotechnology.
School of Tourism and Hospitality
This school has four degree courses, including Bachelor of Tourism Management, Hotels and Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Leisure Management and Bachelor of Tours and Travel Management.
Business & Economics
The program offerings include a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Resource Management, Economics, Financial Economics, Agribusiness Management, Economics and Statistics, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Commerce, Project Planning and Management, and Business Management.

There are seven courses under the school of education, including Bachelor of Education (Arts), Education (Science) and Education (Arts) with Special Needs Education.
Other courses are Bachelor of Education (Arts) with Guidance and Counseling; Education (Science) with Special Needs Education; Education (Science) with Guidance and Counseling; and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Development Education).

The School has a variety of Undergraduate programs in various areas like Computer Science, Applied Statistics with Computing, Information Science, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, and Mathematics.

Maasai Mara students pay different fees under the New Funding based on the courses they are pursuing.
According to the 2023/24 fee structure, students pursuing B.A of: Kiswahili and Journalism; Community Development, Social Work, Political Science & Public Administration; Language & Communication; Criminology & Penology and Geography pay Ksh76,500 per semester.
Students undertaking Bachelor of Education Arts courses pay Ksh91,800 per semester.
On the other hand, students pursuing Commerce, Human Resource Management, Economics, Financial Economics, Entrepreneurship, Project Planning & Management, Hospitality Management, Information Science, Communication & Public Relations, Literature and Arts Geography pay Ksh102,000 per semester.
Cost of Other Courses
Besides, Bachelor of Science in: Mathematics, Physics, Botany, Chemistry, Zoology and Microbiology students pay Ksh112200 per semester.
Bachelor of Education Science courses and Applied Statistics with Computing students pay Ksh122,400 per semester.
The Bachelor of Science (Food, Nutrition and Dietetics) and Nursing fee is Ksh91,800 per semester.
There are courses whose fee per semester is Ksh137,700.
This includes Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Wildlife Management, Forestry Ecosystem Management, Sustainable Forest Management, Earth Sciences, Animal Health and Protection, Environmental Studies, Environmental Management, Kiswahili and Journalism and Environmental Planning, Management & Policy.
Further, Computer Science and Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning cost Ksh153,000 per semester.
BA in Religion, Philosophy, Sociology and History students pay Ksh61,200 per semester.
