Moi Forces Academy (MFA) – Lanet is a girls-only national secondary school located near Lanet Military Barracks in Nakuru County.
The school’s history goes back to the 1980s when the late former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, in consultation with the Board of Governors, decided that Moi Forces Academy – Nairobi should cease to operate as a co-educational institution.
MFA Nairobi itself had been established following a request by nursery school children at Moi Air Base (MAB) to President Moi. The President held the first fundraising event (harambee) on June 9, 1979, during which a record Ksh7.8 million was raised. He also laid the foundation stone, marking the official commencement of the school’s construction.
The Primary Division of Moi Forces Academy – Nairobi officially opened its doors to Standard One pupils on February 11, 1980. This was followed by the admission of Form One students on February 18, 1980, and Form Five students on May 6, 1980.
Moi Forces Academy Lanet history
Originally established as a mixed boarding secondary school with a day primary division, the Academy’s secondary school became a boys-only institution in 1990 after female students were transferred to the newly established Moi Forces Academy – Lanet, marking the birth of the girls’ school in Nakuru.
The institution started as a double-streamed school, but due to the growing demand for girls’ education, the school expanded to five streams and added a sixth stream in 2015.
MFA Lanet, sponsored by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), admits both children of Armed Forces personnel and civilians.
Being a public school, form one admissions are done by the Ministry of Education and vacancies are available on competitive basis.
Those seeking admissions directly can contact the school or pay a visit for further guidelines.
On May 10, 2025, the school launched the Aviation Technology subject, becoming the first National Girls School to offer it in the country.
The event themed “Demystifying Aviation” saw the school acquire a fully functional training aircraft from the Kenya Air force (KAF) which will henceforth provide the over 50 students currently enrolled for the subject a practical exposure to aviation operations.

School Fees
The government had earlier set a cap on the maximum yearly school fees parents are expected to pay. In 2020, the Ministry of Education introduced a new fee structure that categorized Kenya’s 103 national schools into four clusters.
Moi Forces Academy Lanet was classified under Cluster Three (III), with the recommended annual fee set at around Ksh75,798.
Nonetheless, actual fees might differ slightly depending on the school, as institutions often include extra charges for items such as uniforms, motivation initiatives, or co-curricular programs.
