The Open University of Kenya (OUK) has launched new programmes, including free courses, available for applications in the 2025 intake.
In a notice dated February 25, OUK introduced eight bachelor’s degree programs, eight professional development courses, six master’s degree programs, three post graduate diplomas and one doctor of philosophy course.

The free programs include business modelling for entrepreneurs which takes three weeks and mental health awareness which runs for two weeks.
Other new professional courses include accountability fundamentals, corporate governance, e-learning essentials for online engagement, emotional intelligence, gender and diversity and Online Assessment.

These six courses take six weeks with a fee of Ksh10,000.
School of Science & Technology
Three additional bachelor’s degree programmes are now available in this department at an annual fee of Ksh105,000.

This includes Bachelor of Data Science, Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Foreignsic and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computing.
OUK has also launched the following master’s degree programs; Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Digital Foreignsic and Digital Services Management.
The four masters pragrammes cost Ksh187,500 and last for the normal two years.
School of Business & Economics
Students can now apply for a Bachelor of Business and Entrepreneurship, Economics and Statistics and Economics and Data Science.
Other additional courses include a postgraduate diploma in Leadership and Accountability, master’s in business administration and PhD in Business Management.
The cost of the bachelor’s and master’s degrees are similar to the ones in school of science and technology.
The postgraduate diploma runs for a year and costs Ksh110,000 while the PhD costs Ksh337,500.
School of Education
UOK has a Bachelor of Technology Education costing Ksh115,000 yearly.
It has also launched masters in learning design and technology costing Ksh187, 500 for the two years.
Students can also pursue a postgraduate diploma in learning and technology or a postgraduate diploma in education.
The programmes last for one year and cost Ksh110,000.
A bachelor’s degree in Agri-Technology and food systems is also available at Ksh115,000 per year.

Undergraduate Programmes Qualifications
Applicants must have a scored a mean grade of C+ and above at KCSE or hold diplomas or professional qualifications from recognized institutions.
They must also have a KCSE certificate or equivalent and a foundational certificate or bridging course from recognized institutions.
Alternatively, they can present a Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with a minimum of 1 principal and subsidiary passes.
Students interested in postgraduate diploma programmes must possess a bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized by Senate.

Master’s and PhD Programmes Requirements
1.A bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study or an equivalent qualification recognised by Senate.
2.A bachelor’s degree with at least a Pass or an equivalent qualification recognized by Senate and a relevant Postgraduate Diploma from the Open University of Kenya or an institution recognized by Senate.
PhD applicants must be holders of master’s degree in a relevant field recognized by Senate.
Open University of Kenya Application Guidelines
The OUK KUCCPS dedicated portal https://ouk.kuccps.net is open throughout the year for placement of students to the Open University of Kenya for 2024 and previous years KCSE candidates.
Once the KUCCPS application portal https://students.kuccps.net is open to all universities, OUK programmes will also be available for the 2024 KCSE candidates.
Interested applicants for the Professional Development Courses, bachelor’s programmes and Postgraduate programmes should apply through https://admissions.ouk.ac.ke.
“For all the programmes or course units, students outside East Africa will pay 10% more. KNUT registered members, KNUT staff and legal dependants are eligible for a 16% discount,” OUK said.
