The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the suspension of all promotional interviews that were scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025.
This follows the government’s declaration of the day as a public holiday in honor of the late Right Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga.
In Circular No. 22/2025 dated 16th October 2025, the Commission stated that the affected interviews have been rescheduled to take place between Tuesday, 21st October and Thursday, 23rd October 2025.
TSC Announces New Dates
“Following the Government’s declaration of Friday, 17th October 2025 as a Public Holiday in honour of the late Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, the Teachers Service Commission has suspended all promotional interviews previously scheduled for that day,” read part of the statement.
“The affected interviews will be rescheduled across the three (3) working days, commencing Tuesday, 21st October through Thursday, 23rd October 2025.”

TSC directed that the respective Regional Directors will communicate revised schedules and logistical details to the affected teachers.
Acting Commission Secretary and CEO E. J. Mitei expressed appreciation to teachers for their professionalism, commitment, and understanding during the adjustment period.
The statement further noted that the public holiday offers an opportunity to reflect on Raila Odinga’s legacy and his contributions to democracy and education in Kenya.
Govt Declares Raila Odinga Holiday
The government declared Friday, October 17, 2025, a public holiday in honor of the late Raila Amolo Odinga, the veteran opposition leader and former Prime Minister who passed away on October 15, 2025.

In a gazette notice issued on October 16, the Ministry of Interior said the day will be set aside for national reflection and remembrance of Odinga’s legacy and immense contribution to Kenya’s democracy.
The declaration, made under the Public Holidays Act, aims to allow the nation to reflect on Odinga’s legacy. The holiday will be observed nationwide.
“IT IS notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Friday, the 17th of October 2025, shall be a public holiday in honour of the departed former Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.”
Odinga collapsed during a morning walk and was taken to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam, where he was pronounced dead.
