Emali Sunshine Academy has been put on the spot after a viral video of a grade 3 student narrating how he was sodomized by a grade 9 student.
In the interview with Ngoso News, the boy painfully recounts that the alleged abuse occurred not once, but twice, and was allegedly forced by his senior.
“One time, the Grade 9 student heard someone coming, while he was trying to commit the act, so he hid under the blanket,” the Grade 3 pupil narrated.
Sources say that the child’s parents say the school administration kept the matter undisclosed.
The victim is currently receiving treatment in the Hospital, with the incident sparking widespread reactions from Kenyans.
This comes after Peter Ayiro, a teacher at Alliance Girls’ School, was accused of grooming students for sexual liaisons and was suspended by the TSC.
Revelations by Africa Uncensored journalist and Alliance Girls alumna Christine Mungai disclosed that teacher Peter Ayiro had engaged in interactions with current and former students that crossed emotional and, in some instances, physical boundaries.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok called for the arrest and prosecution of the teacher.
Reactions Over Emali Sunshine Academy After Grade 9 Student Is Accused of Sodomy
Kenyans have condemned the alleged act, with some calling for justice, the arrest of the perpetrator, and even the closure of the school.
Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has urged Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to close the school and called on teachers to issue statements regarding the case.
“Emali Sunshine Academy should be shut down with immediate effect. All teachers and staff should be recording statements, and the parents of the mentioned students who are raping other students should be at a police station with those rapists,” she posted.
“The school management should be charged and arraigned in court because all proprietors and/or school administrators MUST understand that duty of care begins and ends with them.”

Uproar From Kenyans
A Facebook user, Stella DJcaramel, stated that boys deserve the same seriousness and attention in such cases as girls, adding that:
“There are heartbreaking reports coming out of Emali Sunshine Academy, where young boys are being sodomised. Even worse, the school is allegedly covering it up. What angers me most is the silence!! If this were happening to girls, it would already be trending. Why is the pain of the boy child ignored? Why is their trauma brushed aside?”

Demand for Action
Another Facebook user by the name Antony Kokonya commented:
“Action should be taken, but giving General emotive statements jeopardizing everyone isn’t wise. I think it’s prudent to get the facts right and act after that. Social media isn’t a place to seek justice, as people are in for views and likes.”
At the same time, some have raised concerns about safety in boarding schools, asking:
“Are these institutions becoming unsafe for our children? How secure are our kids while away from home?”
