How To Join Super Metro Sacco As A Matatu Owner In Kenya

Super Metro is a matatu SACCO operating in Kenya’s public transport sector, known for its strict operational structure, branded fleet, and high passenger demand on major Nairobi commuter routes.

However, joining the SACCO as a vehicle owner requires meeting detailed financial, legal, and operational requirements that are enforced prior to approval.

The SACCO currently operates across more than 15 routes and stations within Nairobi and the Nairobi Metropolitan area, offering commuter and parcel services.

Super Metro commuter routesin Nairobi Metropolitan area include Nairobi CBD, Makongeni, Thika, Juja, Roysambu, Westlands, Kikuyu, Mfangano, Bus Station, Malaa, Kitengela, Kabiria, Ngong, Juja Farm, Rongai, Regen, Kinoo, Mfangano and Kahawa West.

Entry Requirements and Membership Structure

When a matatu owner wants to join Super Metro SACCO, they first undergo an application process that begins with identification and business verification.

Applicants are required to present documents including:

  • Copy of National Identity Card (ID) or Passport
  • KRA PIN certificate
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Proof of residence (utility bill, tenancy agreement, or equivalent documentation)

Fees Required to Join Super Metro

The SACCO also requires its members to pay fees, including a registration fee, a share capital contribution, and an entrance fee depending on the financing model.

Share Capital 10,000 Ownership contribution to the SACCO
Entrance Fee (Self-financing) 50,000 Paid by investors purchasing their own vehicle
Entrance Fee (SACCO-financed) 100,000 Paid when the SACCO facilitates vehicle acquisition
Vehicle Deposit 1,956,000 30% deposit for a KSh 6.52 million financed matatu
Processing Fee 65,200 Equivalent to 1% of the financed vehicle cost
Debenture Fee 20,000 Loan security documentation charge
Comprehensive Insurance 55,000 Mandatory annual comprehensive cover
Third-Party Insurance 15,900 Required liability insurance
Vehicle Tracking Device 25,000 Installation of GPS tracking system
Transport Licensing Board (TLB) Fee 4,500 Regulatory licensing fee
County Seasonal Permits 13,880 Operating permits for counties such as Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado
Monthly Loan Installment 121,000 Applicable for SACCO-financed vehicles over 48 months

Vetting, Route Allocation, and Operational Rules

The Sacco also enforces internal vetting procedures in which applicants are assessed for financial readiness, compliance history, and ability to meet operational requirements.

This process ensures all members understand the Sacco’s strict rules governing conduct, punctuality, vehicle maintenance, and fare discipline.

Once verified, members are then issued with formal documentation confirming their ownership and participation in the Sacco.

Successful applicants are then allocated specific routes based on operational demand and fleet planning.

Vehicles are then branded with the Super Metro identity and integrated into the Sacco’s monitoring system, which includes GPS tracking and performance oversight.

Super Metro Services Across Nairobi

Super Metro has expanded its services to offer commuters and businesses a wider range of transportation and delivery options.

The company offers airport shuttle services for passengers moving to and from the Airports in Nairobi.

Shuttles provide reliable pick-up and drop-off services, with spacious, well-maintained vehicles designed to offer comfort and punctuality for travelers across the city.

In addition to passenger transport, Super Metro continues to provide parcel and courier services within Nairobi CBD and surrounding areas.

The company has also expanded its charter services for special occasions and group travel. These include weddings, funerals, corporate trips, and private tours.
