George Ruto, the youngest son of President William Ruto, launched 98 Matatu SACCO on June 17, 2026, marking his formal entry into the matatu SACCO business.
The 98 SACCO forms part of his growing transport venture, popularly known as the “Raptor Family” fleet.
Unlike most matatu SACCOs, which are owned collectively by members, 98 Matatu SACCO is reportedly owned by George Ruto as an individual business venture.
The 98 SACCO operates within Nairobi’s public service vehicle sector alongside established transport operators, and the fleet traces its roots to Raptor, the first matatu acquired by George Ruto.
George Ruto’s transport business comprises at least seven matatus under the Raptor Family fleet: Raptor, Money Fest, Matrix, Mood (Doom), Baba Yaga (John Wick), Manifest and Ambush. The vehicles operate mainly on the Embakasi and Ongata Rongai routes in Nairobi.
Of the seven matatus, six are currently operating within the fleet. Ambush was impounded by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in January 2025 alongside Money Fest over allegations of reckless driving.
Despite the regulatory action, George Ruto’s matatu portfolio has continued to expand, with Baba Yaga becoming one of the latest additions to the fleet in 2026.
Inside the 98 SACCO Fleet
- Baba Yaga (John Wick)
Baba Yaga joined George Ruto’s fleet in April 2026, becoming his fifth matatu. The vehicle operates on the Ongata Rongai route and is named after the fictional “Baba Yaga” character from the John Wick movie franchise.
The matatu features a dark-and-cream exterior design, distinctive lighting effects, and a spacious passenger cabin. Before joining George Ruto’s fleet, Baba Yaga had already established a strong presence on the highly competitive Rongai route.
Its acquisition further expanded George Ruto’s footprint in Nairobi’s public transport sector and reinforced his position as an investor in the matatu industry.
- Mood (Doom)
Launched in July 2025, Mood is one of the most expensive matatus in George Ruto’s fleet, with an estimated value of KSh14 million. The 25-seater operates on the Embakasi route.
The vehicle is widely known as one of Kenya’s first solar-powered matatus, using solar panels to power its lighting and entertainment systems. It is fitted with a DJ mixing booth, bucket seats with charging ports and cup holders, air conditioning, a 65-inch television screen, and a push-to-start ignition system.
Mood gained attention for combining luxury, entertainment and sustainability in a single PSV vehicle.
- Money Fest
Money Fest was George Ruto’s first major matatu investment and is credited with launching his presence in the PSV industry. The 33-seater initially operated on Ngong Road before moving to Ongata Rongai and later settling on the Embakasi route.
The vehicle is fitted with 55-inch side television screens and multiple subwoofers, earning it a reputation as a mobile entertainment hub. Its distinctive design and sound system helped it stand out in Nairobi’s matatu culture.
Money Fest was also among the vehicles impounded by NTSA in January 2025 over allegations of reckless driving.

- Matrix
Matrix was acquired in September 2024 at a reported cost of KSh8.7 million. The matatu operates on the Embakasi route and features a green-and-black design inspired by the Matrix film franchise.
The vehicle attracted significant public attention when it debuted and quickly became one of the most recognizable units in George Ruto’s fleet.
Its launch demonstrated continued investment in high-end public transport vehicles and helped strengthen the Raptor Family brand.

- Raptor
Raptor is the pioneering vehicle in George Ruto’s fleet and the matatu that gave rise to the “Raptor Family” identity. It laid the foundation for his entry into Nairobi’s transport sector.
The vehicle is currently undergoing upgrades and refurbishment. Despite newer additions to the fleet, Raptor remains a key part of the brand’s history and growth.
- Manifest
Manifest forms part of George Ruto’s expanding PSV portfolio. The matatu initially operated on the Ngong Road route before being reassigned to Embakasi.

- Ambush
Ambush operated on the Lang’ata-Rongai route and was among the vehicles associated with George Ruto’s transport venture.
In January 2025, the matatu, along with Money Fest, was impounded by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) over allegations of reckless driving. The incident highlighted some of the regulatory challenges facing operators in the matatu industry.
Despite the setback, the fleet continued to expand with the addition of newer vehicles in subsequent months.
