Johnson Nzioka, the chairman of the Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association, has vowed to support the family of Shadrack Mitty, particularly his daughter’s education.
The commitment came during an emotional memorial service on Thursday for Mitty, a senior education reporter at KTN News, who passed away suddenly.
Tears flowed freely as family, friends, colleagues, and members of the media fraternity gathered to honor Mitty at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital Memorial Home. Mitty, known for his dedication to education journalism, had made a significant impact through his work.
Nzioka, addressing the mourners, expressed his commitment to ensuring Mitty’s daughter receives the education her father valued so deeply.
“We will not be left behind in supporting this cause. We want to contribute to the education fund for his young daughter,” Zioka said.

Shadrack Mitty ’s Memorial Service
The gathering at the memorial service included not only those who knew Mitty personally but also many who admired his work from afar.
His widow, Rosalind, says she has not only lost a loving husband, but also a wonderful father to their daughter.

“Shaddy always put others before himself and he never complained about the hardship of life, he never let the negativity of the world let him down” Rosalind said.
“He wanted to leave a little kinder than he found it, hopefully we will be able to maintain his legacy,” she added.
His reporting had touched many lives, and his absence is deeply felt across the journalism community.
Career at Standard Media group
Mitty was a seasoned reporter on the education beat at standard media group, having covered key events such as the transition of the new education curriculum to CBC, from the 8-4-4 system, and reported on several KCSE and KCPE examination intakes.

He also covered international matters in education. Mitty died at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.
He was unwell at the time of his demise, and his condition had deteriorated as of Tuesday, May 28.
Shadrack Mitty’s untimely death leaves a void in the world of education journalism, but his legacy lives on through his contributions and the continued support from his colleagues and the community.
