Renowned Citizen TV Anchor Victoria Rubadiri has left Citizen TV after a nearly six-year stint at the Royal Media Services (RMS)-owned station.
Speaking exclusively to The Kenya Times, a source close to the station said Rubadiri is poised to embark on a correspondent role at CNN in the coming days.
According to the source, the seasoned anchor is set to join the American news company as an African Correspondent.
Neither Victoria nor Citizen TV has made an official announcement about her exit, but the source revealed that she made her last bulletin on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
The source further intimated that members of the RMS staff cut a cake to celebrate Rubadairi’s time at the Dennis Pritt Road-based station, but no official farewell party has been held so far.
Rubadiri joined RMS in 2018 and has since then worked as a news Anchor. Throughout her stint at Citizen TV, she co-anchored popular primetime news broadcast Sunday Live on Citizen TV with veteran media star Jeff Koinange.
Rubadiri is an award-winning Kenyan journalist known for her ability to connect with her audience and tell compelling stories.

In addition, she anchored the Citizen Weekend primetime news bulletin on Saturdays.
Rubadiri as a journalist
Victoria’s journalism journey kickstarted after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America.
During her time in the US, she worked in several roles including being an assistant to a CEO and as an intern at WMGM-NBC 40 TV.
Her first journalism job back in Kenya came in 2011 when she joined Capital FM as a Business Journalist.
Rubadiri, who also worked as a News Presenter for Capital TV, left the station later in December 2012 to join the Nation Media Group (NMG).

At NMG, she assumed the role of an anchor and Reporter for NTV and carried out other responsibilities including researching for scripts and editing stories for news broadcasts.
As an anchor, she was responsible for primetime news show NTV Weekend Edition every Friday to Sunday.
Victoria was also one of the minds behind NTV’s talk show ‘Victoria’s Lounge’ where she played a role as a producer and host of the weekly show.
She hosted it for three years attracting a wide viewership while touching on topics ranging from mental health, gender equality and governance.
Exits NTV
It is after her exit from NTV in 2018 that she joined RMS as a senior anchor and went on to have a six-year stint at Citizen TV.
During her time at RMS, she also had a brief stint back at radio working as a host on Hot 96’s Sunday morning show, Arise on Hot.
However, her stint was short-lived as she quit three months after joining the radio station without providing any other details on why she left.
Victoria Rubadiri is the recipient of the 2020 BBC Komla Dumor Award. The Award is a journalism award launched by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
It was launched in 2015 in honor of the legacy of Ghanaian journalist Komla Dumor who worked for BBC World News and was the main presenter of its program Focus on Africa.
The program aims to uncover and promote fresh talent from the African continent, with winners spending three months at the BBC headquarters.
Takes leave
Upon winning the award, the seasoned anchor took a three-month leave from Citizen TV in September 2021 and returned in December that year.
During the leave, she travelled to BBC HQ in London for work, learning, gaining skills and experience as part of the award’s program.
Rubadiri becomes yet another senior journalist to leave RMS following the exit of seasoned reporters Hassan Mugambi and Chemutai Goin.
The renowned reporters left Citizen TV to embark on senior government roles, with Goin assuming a senior role at the Senate while Mugambi was unveiled as the Personal Secretary for Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
Other high-profile journalists who have left the station include Willis Raburu who joined TV47 and Francis Gachuri who joined the Ministry of Interior.
