The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched a new WhatsApp-based platform that allows taxpayers to file their returns, aimed at simplifying compliance and enhancing accessibility.
Addressing a press briefing on April 1, KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga said the new platform is part of efforts to provide simplified, efficient, and inclusive tax services while boosting domestic revenue collection.
“Taxpayers should take advantage of this innovation and file early this year. This new platform represents the standard of tax compliance at KRA,” the Commissioner said.

In addition, the authority introduced prefilled returns for individuals with employment income, incorporating data from employer PAYE submissions such as gross pay, taxable income, and statutory deductions, including the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and the Affordable Housing Levy.

KRA has further expanded flexibility in expense claims, allowing taxpayers to declare legitimate non-eTIMS business expenses supported by relevant documentation.
The authority reminded taxpayers that the deadline for payment of any outstanding tax on income earned in 2025 is April 30, 2026, and urged individuals and businesses to file their returns and settle any liabilities within the stipulated timelines.
