The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has responded to circulating videos featuring the Kenya national men’s football team Harambee Stars’ goalkeeper Patrick Matasi of Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club, which have sparked concerns over possible match manipulation.
This follows an outcry from Kenyan football fans on social media after undated footage emerged allegedly showing Matasi with unidentified individuals discussing a ‘deal’—seemingly related to match-fixing.
In a statement on Thursday, March 27, FKF confirmed that it is aware of the video and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the integrity of football.
The federation further stated that it has launched an official investigation in collaboration with FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other relevant authorities in response to the allegations against Matasi.
“We reaffirm our zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation and are committed to safeguarding the credibility of our competitions. This investigation will adhere to FKF’s Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations and FIFA guidelines, ensuring a fair, transparent, and thorough process,” said FKF.
“The rights of the player and his club will be respected, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.”

FKF sends appeal after viral video featuring Matasi
The country’s football federation has urged anyone with credible information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
According to FKF, all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality, and information can be submitted via [email protected].
The Hussein Mohammed-led federation also stated that it will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
The statement follows an outcry from Kenyan football fans, who took to social media on Wednesday and throughout Thursday to express their fury over videos allegedly showing goalkeeper Patrick Matasi with unidentified individuals plotting a ‘deal’—seemingly to fix a football match.
However, the time and location of the amateur footage remain unclear, as does the identity of the fixtures referenced in the video.
What is evident in the video, which was recorded inside a car and seen by The Kenya Times is the face of the Kenyan goalkeeper.

Viral video
In the video, the alleged match-fixers can be heard instructing Matasi on how the ‘deal’ would be executed.
“I repeat again before the boss, this is the first deal, I beg you,” one of the men says as Matasi nods in agreement.
He continues, “You know how we have done this; I have never let you down, and you have never let me down,” suggesting they have engaged in similar dealings before.
“In my business with you, zero failure, right?” the man asks, to which Matasi responds, “True!”
The man further tells the Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper, “Whatever is given to me, I will forward to you immediately. Once I send it, I will call you, and the boss will confirm you have received it—then the deal is on.”
As the conversation continues, the man outlines what he expects the former Kenya Police FC player to do in the purported fixed match.
“That first half, bro, what we want must happen. And my deal should not go to anyone else,” he concludes.
In the past, Kenyan football fans have accused Matasi of conceding ‘cheap goals’—both while representing Harambee Stars and playing for Kenya Police FC—raising suspicions.
Matasi, who was Harambee Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper for years, has since been overlooked by new coach Benni McCarthy.
