Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service, Felix Koskei, on September 19, 2025, graduated with a Master of Science degree in Zoology (Agricultural Entomology) from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
Koskei reflected on the challenges of balancing the demands of public service with academic pursuits.
“Balancing the demands of public service with academic study has required discipline and persistence, complemented by the support of family, friends, and colleagues,” he said.
He also encouraged his fellow graduates to value education, quoting Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Koskei, however, is not stopping at a master’s degree. He revealed that he plans to pursue a PhD.
“I am looking forward to commencing my PhD study, by God’s grace,” he said.
His academic ambitions mirror those of his boss, President William Ruto, who began his university journey in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany and Zoology at Chiromo Campus (UoN), graduating in 1990, and later enrolled for a PhD in Plant Ecology in 2012.
Interestingly, Koskei also graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1990 and later an MBA in 2004, both from the University of Nairobi.
The duo’s shared academic interests suggest a mutual appreciation for the study of plants and zoology.
Felix Koskei acknowledged by UoN Chancellor
During the ceremony, University of Nairobi Chancellor Patrick Verkooijen recognized Koskei’s achievement, commending him for reaching this significant milestone.
“The Head of Public Service of this great nation, Mr Felix Koskei, also graduated with his master’s degree from this very university today. He is proof that the world of action and the world of learning are inseparable. At UoN, eternal learning meets national service.”
