John Okwisia Makali is the Member of Parliament for Webuye West Constituency, currently serving his third term in the National Assembly.
He is a member of the Ford-K Party.
Educational Background of John Makali
John Makali began his education at Musikoma Primary School from 1977 to 1983, completing his KCPE with 28 points.
He then advanced to Bungoma Boys High School between 1984 and 1987, earning 13 points in the KCSE.
Between 1988 and 1989, he attended St Patrick’s High School, Iten, where he scored 19 points in his KACE exams.
He later studied law at the University of Nairobi, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Second Class Honours Upper Division, from 1990 to 1994.
He completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Law at the Kenya School of Law in 1994–1995.
Career life
John Makali launched his legal career in 1996, working as an Associate at Wetangula and Company Advocates until 1998.
From 1998 to 2022, he was Senior Partner at J.O. Makali & Company Advocates, a legal firm he co-founded and managed.
He also chaired the Law Society of Kenya, Bungoma Chapter, for nearly a decade.
In 2013, he entered politics as the First Speaker of the Bungoma County Assembly, serving until 2017.
In August 2022, he was elected Member of Parliament for Kanduyi Constituency on a Ford-Kenya ticket, defeating incumbent Wafula Womanity
He took office on August 16, 2022, and serves as a member of the Justice & Legal Affairs Committee and the Implementation Committee in the current Parliament.
Makali is an active legislator who advocates for county financial autonomy, equitable resource sharing, and citizen protection from harmful imports.
In 2023 and 2025, he launched major NG‑CDF bursary drives, Ksh 52.4 million and Ksh 54 million, benefiting thousands of students across Kanduyi.
