Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced the commencement of interviews for various jobs in Qatar.
CS Mutua in a statement on Thursday, October 24, said a Qatari company is working with the ministry to conduct the interviews over the next two days.
In construction and technical, Mutua announced opportunities for:
Rigger signalmen
Construction helpers
Cleaners
Storekeepers
Electricians
Plumbers
Masons
Tile layers
Steel fixers
Painters
Welders
Scaffolders
Excavator, mobile crane, skid loader, backhoe loader, single drum roller, telehandler, boom truck, water tanker, tipper truck and tower crane operators will also be interviewed.
The CS noted that in the hospitality and service industry, the company will be conducting interviews for nurses, commis, demi chefs, chef de partie, kitchen helpers and barbacks.
Runners, waitresses, stewarding supervisors, kids’ attendants, hotel maintenance technicians, light vehicle drivers and heavy vehicle drivers will also be interviewed.

“Please ensure you are familiar with your industry and job duties. Only candidates for the listed job openings will be allowed entry,” the statement read in part.

Interviews for the hospitality and service industry will be conducted at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi from Friday, October 25 to Sunday, October 27 from 7:30 AM.
On the other hand, interviews and construction and technical roles practicals will be conducted at the Kabete National Polytechnic.
They will commence on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 AM and end on Sunday, October 27.
Participants have been directed to dress in black and white or overall, where applicable, and carry the required documents which include a CV, passport-size photo and a passport.
CS Mutua stated that if an applicant does not have a passport, arrangements will be made to secure one as soon as possible if they are hired.
Additionally, Mutua said no fee will be charged for one to be interviewed or considered, adding that requirements for medical, visa processing, air ticketing and other travel modalities will be provided free of charge for applicants who will be hired.
Participants have also been warned from handing over their passport to anyone.
Ruto announces MOU with Qatar
The announcement by CS Mutua came weeks after President William Ruto announced that Kenyans will be able to move to Qatar for thousands of jobs.

President Ruto noted that a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will take effect in December 2024, to allow the move.
The Head of State further indicated that Kenyans who will secure the jobs will get equal pay and benefits comparable to those of their international counterparts.
“Kenya and Qatar are strengthening their bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. We are working to eliminate barriers to labour mobility to create job opportunities for skilled Kenyans in Qatar,” said Ruto.
He added, “Under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) set to take effect in December 2024, Kenyan workers will gain increased access to professional roles in sectors such as health, ICT, education, and hospitality, with equal pay and benefits comparable to those of their international counterparts.”
CS Mutua on his part back then said that the Kenyan government had already begun talks towards finalizing the MOU.
Moreover, he said that the jobs will be in the ICT, health, education, infrastructure, and agriculture sectors.
