Kenya’s Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has opened the application for the Director General position.
The job vacancy follows the leadership changes announced by the Authority upon the expiration of the contract of the former Director General, Emile Arao, on April 22.
Nicholas Bodo was hence appointed as the Acting Director General by the Board, in consultation with the Ministry of Road and Transport.
According to KCAA, the successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management and operations in accordance with the Civil Aviation Act.
The Director General will report to the Board of Directors and act as a link to the Board of Management.
“This position will be responsible to the Board for the day-to-day management and coordination of the execution of functions of the Authority as provided for in the Civil Aviation Act (CAP 394),” part of the notice from the KCAA dated April 26 read.
Further, the Director General will serve as an accounting officer as well as the official spokesperson responsible for the promotion of the corporate image of the Authority.
Overseeing the development and management of the Authority’s budget to ensure accountability will be done by the Director General.
In addition, the Director General will ensure effective staff management of all Directorates that affect the execution of the KCAA role.
KCAA Job Application Requirements
Interested applicants are required by the Authority to have at least 10 years of management and technical experience in the field of civil aviation.
A Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Management, or Law, or an equivalent field from a recognized university, are mandatory requirements for all applicants.
Additionally, the applicant must demonstrate the understanding of the Aviation Industry, including the local and international conventions and treaties that govern aviation as a requirement.
Further, KCAA requires that the applicant meet all the requirements of the Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
Applicants with a relevant short Course lasting at least six weeks from a recognized Institution will have an added advantage in the application process.
In addition, all the potential applicants for the Director General position will be required to be proficient in computer applications.

Director General Applications
All applications for the position should be received not later than May 18 and should be directed to the Chairman, Board of Directors via [email protected], with the Authority only contacting the shortlisted candidates.
Additionally, applicants making the application are required to submit their applications together with certified true copies of certificates, testimonials, and a detailed curriculum vitae.
KCAA has encouraged female candidates and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to apply for the position.
However, the Authority has requested that any applicant with disability attach a copy of a valid NCPWD membership card.
A successful candidate for the Director General position shall hold the office for a term of four years from the date of appointment.
Reappointment to serve as the Director General for a further four-year term will be done upon the recommendation of the Board on the eligibility for reappointment.
