The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) has declared the position of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) vacant and invited applications from interested and qualified candidates.
However, from the advert on Tuesday, May 21, it is still unclear whether the acting the acting CEO Dr. Andrew Mulwa resigned.
According to KEMSA, the successful candidate will be tasked with steering KEMSA towards achieving its objectives effectively and efficiently, for a term of four years (renewable once subject to satisfactory performance).
Needed Qualifications
Applicants for this position must possess a bachelor’s degree in fields such as Pharmacy, Medicine, Business Management, Finance, or Supply Chain Management from a recognized university.
Additionally, a postgraduate degree in a related field and certifications in strategic leadership and corporate governance are highly desirable.

The ideal candidate should have at least 13 years of senior management experience, preferably in the health sector, supply chain management, or the public sector.
Candidates with over 5 years of experience in managing diverse donor-funded projects or strategic partnerships will be given priority.
KEMSA CEO Responsibilities
The CEO’s responsibilities will include providing strategic leadership, overseeing budget allocation, managing stakeholder relationships, and fostering innovation within the organization.
They will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, promoting a culture of excellence, and enhancing KEMSA’s reputation through effective communication and partnership building.

Additionally, applicants are required to satisfy the requirements outlined in Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
This includes obtaining clearances from various authorities such as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Kenya Revenue Authority, Higher Education Loans Board, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

Established through the KEMSA Act 2013, it plays a major role in ensuring the availability of essential drugs and medical supplies across Kenya.
