Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited (StanChart) has announced major leadership changes following the resignation of its Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Chemutai Murgor, effective 31 May 2026.
In a notice on February 26, the bank announced the appointment of Gladys Wairah as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya and the Capital Markets Authority.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Gladys Wairah as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited,” the statement read in part.
Similarly, the bank confirmed that Murgor is stepping down after more than 25 years of service and, in addition to serving as Chief Financial Officer in Kenya, she previously held expanded responsibilities as Chief Financial Officer for East Africa and later across Africa.
“The Board of Directors wishes to announce the resignation of Chemutai Murgor from her role as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited, effective 31 May 2026,” the notice stated.
Gladys Wairah, the Newly Appointed Standard Chartered Chief Financial Officer
Gladys Wairah joined the Bank in 2013 as Financial Controller and transitioned to Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia in 2023, where she currently serves as Country Treasurer.
According to StanChart’s statement, she has been instrumental in executing the Treasury strategy and developing a high-performing Treasury team.
Wairah has over 20 years of leadership experience spanning Treasury, Finance, Controllership, and Governance.
Additionally, she has served on several boards, including the StanChart Kenya Staff Retirement Benefit Scheme and the National Research Fund.

She also chaired the Kenya Bankers Association Finance and Audit Committee.
Gladys is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
StanChart Appoints Birju Sanghrajka As New CEO
Standard Chartered Bank Kenya announced the retirement of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kariuki Ngari.
In a notice on January 22, 2026, the bank noted that Ngari would be formally exiting on April 16, after 24 years of service.

At the same time, StanChart’s Board appointed Birju Sanghrajka as its new Managing Director and CEO, subject to regulatory approvals, as long-serving CEO Kariuki Ngari prepares to exit the role.
“The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Birju Sanghrajka as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, and Head of Coverage for Kenya, subject to regulatory approvals,” read part of the Standard Chartered Bank notice.
According to Standard Chartered, Sanghrajka, who is currently the Head of Corporate and Investment Banking Coverage in Kenya, has served as an Executive Director on the bank’s board since July 2021.
