The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a mixed weather forecast for the week of October 14 to 20. According to Kenyat Met, most parts of the country are expected to remain sunny and dry, while several counties brace for rain, partly cloudy nights, and showers in a few areas during the second half of the forecast period.
KMD said rainfall is expected in the Highlands, East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
Where It Will Rain
Counties likely to experience rainfall include:
The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley (Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties): Morning rains are likely to occur over a few places.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places during the first half of the forecast period, increasing to several places thereafter.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties): Mornings are likely to be cloudy, with occasional rains over a few places, giving way to sunny intervals.
Kenya Met also predicted that afternoon showers are likely to occur over a few places. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, though showers may occur in a few places
North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties): Sunny intervals are expected during the day, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

However, morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur over a few places during the second half of the forecast period.
North-eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo Counties): Sunny intervals are expected during the day, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

Kenya Met Predicts Sunshine and Rising Temperatures
Most regions in eastern, coastal, and northern Kenya will remain hot and dry. Daytime temperatures are expected to soar past 30°C.
The South-eastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta Counties, as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County): Sunny intervals are expected during the day, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
The Coast (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties, as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County): Sunny intervals are expected during the day, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

However, there is a possibility of morning and afternoon showers occurring over a few places.
Kenya Met Review for Last week’s weather
The Kenya Met Department, in their review for October 6 to 12, noted the following:
Rainfall was recorded in several counties, including Kiambu, Nyeri, Kisii, Murang’a, and Kakamega.
Daytime (maximum) temperatures decreased in much of the country, with only a few stations such as Suba, Kisumu and Lodwar recording slight increases.
Additionally, Kenya Met noted that night-time (minimum) temperatures increased in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Coast, the Southeastern lowlands, and North-western Kenya and decreased in the rest of the country.
