President-elect William Ruto has said he is ready to be critiqued by the media
Ruto has said he will lead an administration that grants freedom of the press under his presidency.
He noted that he remains a big proponent of press freedom despite previous criticism he leveled against the Fourth Estate during his presidential campaign
“I believe in the freedom of the media and that the media has a role to play. When I criticize the media, it is because I believe in the media and I want the media to do the right thing,” Ruto told journalists.
The President-Elect welcomed criticism of his administration from the media, saying: “I encourage you to criticize us when we go wrong and our competitors as well, balance your coverage and let us have a free and fair media.”
During campaigns, Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza team had labelled the media as biased
He lamented about unfavorable coverage of his political activities
Ruto had accused the media of favoring his main competitor Raila Odinga and running a smear campaign targeting him and his Kenya Kwanza leaders.
He even went ahead to name specific media organizations that he alleged were being used by the State to incite the public against him
