Presidential aspirants cleared by the Independent Electorate and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie for the country’s top seat COME August ,9 will each be provided with at least ten armed police officers.
According to the constitution, each of the entrants and their running mates must be accorded round-the-clock security, with officers allotted to protect them. The security detail provided in their homes and offices is to commence from the date of clearance by IEBC to the conclusion of the General Election.
Therefore, during the two months leading to August, 9 elections, the presidential aspirants and their running mates will be provided with five police officers for security as they campaign all over the country. Moreover, the other five officers will be stationed at their rural and city homes, in shifts, to provide security.
As at now, over 200 officers drawn from the General Service Unit, Kenya Police, Administration Police and Prisons Service have been set aside by the Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai towards this mission.
The security team led by an inspector will be allotted to the candidates once the IEBC gazettes them on Wednesday, June 8.
