IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati has called on politicians to stop profiling the commission and its staff as the country nears the August 9 polls.
Speaking during a forum on elections preparedness,Chebukati said profiling of IEBC staff was sending a wrong signal to Kenyans.
He called on politicians to focus on selling their agenda to the electorate as opposed to spreading unfounded claims about the commission and its staff.
Chebukati cited reports in the media linking him and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula to the Greece company printing ballot papers .
At the same time,Chebukati said the commission will plan a second meeting with presidential candidates to find a solution on the debate on use of the manual register.
He stated that the commission was awaiting a court judgment on the petition filed to compel the use of manual registers during the August polls.
Early Thursday, IEBC had clarified on when the manual register may be used on polling day.
IEBC CEO, Hussein Marjan said the manual register will be applied when three KIEMS kits fail.
“If you turn up on polling day and for some reasons, we are not able to identify you it says we replace the kit,” said Marjan
He added “once we replace the kit and it refuses, we have a third kit and if that is not working that is when we can resort to a manual register,”
Azimio Leader Raila Odinga has threatened to boycott the polls if the commission fails to okay the use of manual registers on polling day.
