Charles Ong’ondo Were is a Kenyan politician who was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kasipul Constituency in Homa Bay County in 2017.
Were was shot dead on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Nairobi.
The incident occurred near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road, where unknown assailants on a motorbike opened fire on his vehicle.
He was rushed to Nairobi Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival
Ong’ondo Were Education
He started his education at Kanabok Primary School where he sat for his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE).
In 1983, he joined Oyugis Secondary School, where he completed his secondary school studies in 1986 and sat for Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE).
Ong’ondo Were Higher Education
According to the Parliament website, Were attained a certificate, diploma, bachelor’s degree, and master’s degree between 2011 and 2019.
He enrolled for higher education in 2011; this is 25 years after he finished secondary school.
Were studied a certificate in County Governance at Meru University between 2011 and 2012.
He enrolled for a diploma in Business Management at Mt. Kenya University in 2013 and completed the course in 2014.
Afterwards, the MP registered for a Bachelor of Business Management at the same Institution in 2015 and graduated in 2017.
He then enrolled for Master of Science in Procurement and Supplies in 2019 and completed it the same year.

Work Experience
Were worked as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Victoria Cleaning Services LTD from 2003 to 2022.
He was also the CEO of Metrokaam Properties LTD between 2006 and 2022.
He held the same position at Benga Group Holding LTD from 2014 to 2022.

Political Career
His political career began in 2017 when he was elected as the MP for Kasipul constituency.
He defended his seat in 2022 on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket.
During his time in Parliament, he served on the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy and Irrigation.
