Jeff Nyagah Career Background
Major General Jeff Nyagah began his new assignment as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Kenya Army’s Western Command in 2023.
His primary focus is to tackle rampant banditry in the North Rift region under “Operation Maliza Uhalifu”, a joint initiative by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and the National Police Service.
This assignment came a month after he exited from the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
During his tenure, he oversaw the establishment of the regional force, helped restore normalcy in Goma city, which was on the verge of capture by M23 rebels, and supervised the withdrawal of rebel forces from major supply routes, paving the way for a ceasefire between the rebels and the FARDC.

His Military Journey
Nyagah is widely recognized for his military leadership dating back to 2011, when he led the KDF incursion into Somalia under “Operation Linda Nchi” as a Colonel.
The campaign successfully pushed Al-Shabaab forces away from the Kenya-Somalia border and into deeper parts of Somalia.
He also led the subsequent defense of Hoosingo, a Kenyan Forward Operating Base in the Lower Juba region, repelling a major attack by Al-Shabaab in January 2012.
Later, as AMISOM Sector 2 Commander, Nyagah combined hard military operations with soft-power strategies, working to win the trust of local communities.
This included initiatives to train locals on alternative income-generating activities to reduce dependence on pastoralism, particularly during prolonged drought seasons.
With a record spanning domestic security, regional peacekeeping, and humanitarian-focused operations, Maj. Gen. Jeff Nyagah is now tasked with bringing stability to one of Kenya’s most volatile regions, carrying forward a legacy of disciplined leadership and operational excellence.
