Khamis Chome is a Kenyan politician, and a member of parliament elected in the 2022 elections to represent Voi constituency in Taita Taveta County.
He was born in 1962 and officially joined politics in 1997.
Khamis Chome clinched the parliamentary seat in the August 9 polls after a 25-year political journey that was at first built on a hopeless dream.
Education background
He started his basic education in Voi Full Primary School from 1969 to 1975, where he attained his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE).
Later, he joined Shimo La Tewa from 1976 to 1979, where he sat for his East African Certificate of Education (EACE) O-Level.
This was equivalent to the Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) before the education system changed.
Between 1980 and 1981, Khamis Chome sat for his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education – Advanced Level (KACE A-Level) at Nairobi school.
In 1983, he enrolled for his engineering degree at the University of Nairobi and graduated in 1986.

Additionally, Khamis Chome pursued a master’s in engineering at the University of Dar Es Salaam from 1988 to 1990.
Career life of Khamis Chome
Khamis Chome began his career in 1986 as an Assistant Engineer at the Ministry of Water Development.
He later joined the National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation in 1990 as an Assistant Regional Manager.
From 1991 to 1997, he worked at Kenya Water for Health Organisation (KWAHO), rising to Deputy Executive Director and Programme Manager.
Between 1998 and 1999, he served as Head of Country Office at OXFAM GB and later joined Norwegian People’s Aid as Programme Manager from 1999 to 2006.
He was the County Director from 2006 to 2014 and a consultant in 2015.
In addition, Khamis Chome worked as a WASH Consultant for the Norwegian Refugee Council in 2017.
After several attempts in his political journey, Khamis Chome joined the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM).
He eventually vied for the parliamentary seat in Voi Constituency and won, thus representing his constituency in the national government.
