Maurine Kabu is a Kenyan tourism entrepreneur and business executive who has carved out a name for herself in the country’s travel industry.

Best known as the firstborn daughter of renowned travel businessman Simon Kabu, Maurine has gradually stepped into the spotlight through her leadership role at Adequate Safaris.

At the Adequate Safaris, Maurine has built an independent brand within the tourism sector with the help of her father, who gifted her three tour vans worth more than 30 million for her business.

Despite being the daughter of the co-founder of the Bonfire Adventures, according to Simon Kabu, his daughter has to work to make a name for herself in the tourism sector.

“This one van is more than 10 million. I decided, as my daughter, I will not give you the fish. Rather, I will be giving you the net and teach you how to fish,” Simon Kabu explained to his daughter on him supporting the business venture rather than providing Maurine with what she wants as he gifted her the tour vans.

Early Life and Family

Maurine Kabu was born into one of Kenya’s most recognizable travel and tourism families.

She is the firstborn daughter of Simon Kabu, the co-founder and CEO of Bonfire Adventures, one of the country’s leading travel companies.

Maurine was brought alongside her siblings, Austin and Anita, by the former wife of Simon, Sarah Kabu, before the couple separated, despite not being Sarah’s biological child.

Growing up, Maurine was exposed to the travel and hospitality industry through her father’s business activities.

Following her early exposure to the travel industry, Maurine developed an appreciation for tourism, travel experiences, and entrepreneurship.

Despite coming from a prominent family, she remained largely away from the public eye for several years before gradually becoming more visible through social media, business engagements, and family appearances.

Her close relationship with her father has been evident in numerous public appearances, with Simon Kabu frequently praising her work.

Education Background

Maurine Kabu pursued higher education in Information Technology (IT) and graduated in 2024.

According to Simon Kabu, Maurine overcame various academic challenges and remained committed to completing her studies.

Although the specific institution where she studied has not been publicly disclosed, her IT background is an important part of her professional profile.

Professional Career and Achievements

After completing her studies, Maurine ventured into the tourism industry, following a path that aligns with her family’s long-standing involvement in the sector.

She currently serves as the Managing Director of Adequate Safaris, a travel company specializing in inbound and outbound tourism, safari experiences, group travel, corporate trips, and customized holiday packages.

Under her leadership, Adequate Safaris has positioned itself as a growing player in Kenya’s tourism market.

In addition, the company focuses on creating tailored travel experiences for both local and international travelers.

Maurine has consistently described herself as a tourism entrepreneur committed to promoting African travel, enhancing customer experiences, and creating memorable journeys for clients.

Her role as the Managing Director of Adequate Safari involves overseeing business growth, strategic partnerships, marketing initiatives, and company operations.

Maurine Kabu’s Recognition and Public Attention

Maurine’s business growth has attracted public attention, especially in 2025, when she received the Best Rising Star CEO of the Year award.

Further, Maurine Kabu has also attracted media coverage for her leadership journey, business expansion efforts, and her commitment to establishing an identity separate from her family’s well-known tourism empire.

Beyond business, Maurine maintains an active presence on social media, where she shares travel experiences, company activities, family moments, and personal milestones.

Away from the travel industry, Maurine has also served as a Sunday school teacher, according to her father, Simon Kabu.

Through interviews, business appearances, and public engagements, Maurine has transitioned from being known primarily as Simon Kabu’s daughter to being recognized as an entrepreneur.
